TOLANWith the Continental Divide on its southern boundary, this roughly 7,100 acre roadless area contains excellent wildlife habitat. The middle portion of Tolan Creek flows through the IRA’s northern section, Unfortunately past timber harvest and motorized use have degraded the area’s roadless character and the Bitterroot National Forest gave it a low ranking for Wilderness designation. Still, only two single-track trails provide access to the roadless area and protecting these routes from motorized use would increase the quality of elk security habitat. |
